In 2004, over 70,000 individuals over the age of 60 were hospitalized for fall related injuries resulting in millions of dollars in hospital costs. The following chart includes fall related hospitalization data by county for the state of California. The data came from the 2004 CA Patient Discharge dataset which was supplied by the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development in partnership with the California Department of Public Health, EPIC Branch. It should be noted that these data only include the cases that resulted in hospital admission and therefore do not reflect the true magnitude of falls in California.
