FPCE to Participate at ASA/NCOA 2005
The Fall Prevention Center of Excellence (FPCE) is participating in the 2005 Joint Conference of the American Society on Aging (ASA) and the National Council on the Aging (NCOA). Center Co-Directors Jon Pynoos, Ph.D. and Debra Rose, Ph.D. will join other experts in the area of fall prevention in a Critical Issues workshop entitled “Falls Free: The National Action Plan to Prevent Falls in the Elderly.” The workshop will give an overview of current elder falls research and discuss the findings of the recent "Falls Free Summit," a conference that brought together diverse participants from nonprofit organizations, associations, and federal agencies. Participants at that Summit examined the issues and drafted a National Action Plan to forge nontraditional partnerships to reduce falls among older adults. The National Action Plan will be presented during this workshop and its application to the Aging Services Network will be discussed. Workshop attendees will be given copies of the National Action Plan and a compendium of review papers.
Other workshop presenters include Lynn Beattie (National Council on the Aging), Mary Ellen Courtright (Archstone Foundation) and Catherine Gordon (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
This year’s Joint Conference of ASA/NCOA will take place from March 10-13 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. For more information about the above workshop, e-mail info@stopfalls.org
