Information for Researchers and Educators

Successful fall prevention involves the three main strategies of: balance training and physical activity; medical management; and, environmental/home modifications. Whether you are a service provider, an interested individual, a caregiver, or an educator/researcher, remember that a combination of all three interventions are necessary to prevent falls in the home and out in the community.

This section of StopFalls.Org lists refereed and peer-reviewed articles on the topic of fall prevention. Here you will find materials, both print and online, that define the “state of the art” in fall prevention. These materials cover the three main topics of balance and physical activity, medical management, and environmental/home modifications. The list includes topics such as the role of cognitive-behavioral approaches to reduce the fear of falling, and non-traditional interventions like tai-chi.
